Chartered Accountant (ICAI)

There are basically three levels in this course i.e. Foundation, Fundamentals and Professional. The course structure is given as under:

Foundation Route

  • Register for foundation after appearing for Class XII exams
  • Qualify Class XII and appear for foundation exam
  • Register for intermediate after qualifying foundation
  • Appear and pass in either or both groups of intermediate course
  • Appear for Integrated course on Information technology and Soft Skills course (ICITSS)
  • Join for 3 years practical training after completing ICITSS
  • Register for final course after qualifying both the groups of intermediate course
  • Appear for Advanced Integrated course on Information technology and Soft Skills course (AICITSS) during last two years of practical training
  • Appear for final exam during last 6 months of practical training
  • Qualify both the groups of final examination
  • Become a member of ICAI

Note: For appearing in Intermediate Course examination, there shall be a time gap of 8 months between the date of registration and the month of appearing for the exams

Direct Entry Route

  • Register for Intermediate course in the final year of graduation on a provisional basis
  • Appear for Integrated course on Information technology and Soft Skills course (ICITSS) before commencement of practical training
  • Join for 3 years practical training after completing ICITSS
  • Register for final course after qualifying both the groups of intermediate course
  • Appear for Advanced Integrated course on Information technology and Soft Skills course (AICITSS) during last two years of practical training
  • Appear for final exam during last 6 months of practical training
  • Qualify both the groups of final examination
  • Become a member of ICAI

Note:
1.For appearing in Intermediate Course examination, there shall be a time gap of 8 months between the date of registration and the month of appearing for the exams

2.Students who opt for direct entry route should have the following % of marks:

  • Commerce Graduates – Minimum 55%
  • Other Graduates – Minimum 60%

CPT as mentioned is the entry level in the field of Chartered Accountancy Course. The exam is objective-based which also includes negative markings. It is conducted to evaluate the basic knowledge of the students in the courses of accountancy, economics, mercantile law and quantitative aptitude. This exam consists of 200 marks that is divided into two separate sections of two hours each, along with a break in between.

The CA-IPCC Course is the next level of Chartered Accountancy examination. Once a candidate passes the CPT exam or finishes his or her graduation, he or she can without any trouble register for the examination of IPCC. The IPCC examination is divided into two groups and consists of seven papers of study. CA-IPCC is the level where specifically the “working knowledge” of the main and associated courses of accountancy is enclosed. This is an exclusive feature of the whole theoretical education of the CA curriculum with a considerate and complementary practical training. A candidate must undergo the theoretical education as well as practical training simultaneously from the commencement of the starting level of theoretical education.

The CA-FINAL Course is the next and the final level of examination for Chartered Accountancy. The candidates can register for this course after completing their first CA examinations because it is only after that they can appear for the final examination on completion article ship or during attending the last six months of articled training on or prior to the last day of the month which precedes the month in which the final exam is to be conducted.

The approach of preparation and training for CA Final classes is overall at separate levels when compared with the CPT and IPCC levels. A candidate is expected to have a complete comprehension of the course at a professional level with more emphasis on the advanced analytical abilities. It is also necessary that the CA Final requires a complete preparation for 24 months, i.e. minimum time period, with overall knowledge enrichment and application.
